We had a blast this summer! Kids brainstormed all kinds of ideas for stories, wrote magical many-ending stories with partners, crafted and acted out plays and created several bound literary magazines full of surprising and thought-provoking stories and poems.
“My son Kyle had missed school for 6 weeks due to an injury, we were worried about him falling behind as a writer as simply writing anything out had been a struggle prior to his missing school. He was slow and it was often a burden to get him started. He came from Abby’s after school class excited about the material and the process and from there he blossomed into a much more confident writer. We went back a few times and he and his friends were motivated enough to walk themselves to the class. A few years later, his English teacher says he is a “stellar” writer and I cannot thank Abby enough for helping my son find the joy of his unique narrative voice.”

"You can write whatever you want: personal narrative, fiction, novels, cartoons."
"There are so many writing games that help you create stories. It's more like a club than a class - more like fun than work."
"Ms. Skrivan is a master writing teacher. Every week, my boys come home proud of their work - eager to read it to me. I once asked my son how many more weeks he had writing club. He quickly answered, "until Ms. Scrivan retires!" Writing Club is one of Albany's best kept secrets!"

Ms. Skrivan is great at helping kids have fun with writing. Most of the kids were so busy playing writing games, they didn’t even realize they were working!
I especially enjoyed the fantastical stories. I created long and complex stories that I felt really proud of.
